VISITING & GETTING HERE
In these early days, access to Primrose Wood is by appointment only, during daylight hours so that we can ensure the gates are open. If you wish to visit the site to see whether Primrose Wood is a suitable burial site for you or someone else, do contact us so that one of our family team can meet and show you around.
As time goes on, we will update these visiting arrangements, with longer days open, and have an online calendar and noticeboard for burial dates so that, if possible, you can avoid planning visits during funerals. If you are on site during a burial, please keep a peaceful, respectful distance. Parking and access will be prioritised given to those attending the service.
Please check the site rules before visiting.
Whilst we have made efforts to accommodate disabled parking and have mown paths around the site, due to the nature of the developing woodland and inherently uneven ground, disabled access is limited and we recommend visiting with a friend who can help. However, please discuss with us how we can help.
There are no toilet facilities on site. If guests are attending a service or celebration at the Tudor Barn at Milden Hall, there are plenty of toilet facilities there.
Please note that, for security, CCTV is in operation on this site day and night.
Primrose Wood is a very rural location without a good bus service, but there are various options other than a car for individuals or a group coming from one location - scroll down for more information.
-
Stansted airport – c1 hour by car. c£75 by taxi. There is no easy public transport from Stansted apart from a bus to Braintree for onward travel by taxi.
Accessible from Harwich and Stansted airport. Easy driving distance to Cambridge (1hr), Bury St Edmunds (30 mins), Norwich (75 mins), Suffolk coast (75 mins). We have a good contact for taxis from Heathrow or Gatwick – they can carry up to 6 passengers with minimal luggage.
-
Sudbury is the nearest (small) train station – a 15-minute taxi ride to Primrose Wood. From London Liverpool Street, you must change at Marks Tey for the hourly train to Sudbury.
Colchester is 40 minutes away by taxi with regular trains to and from London Liverpool Street.
Bury St Edmunds train station (30 mins away, bus to Lavenham) is approached from the Midlands and the North.
-
Local taxis - Google search or ask us for a list and we’ll be happy to help. Taxis need booking up well in advance and clarification that this is The Hall at Milden (not the town of Mildenhall).
-
For public transport links, try Google Maps or the Good Journey Planner – tap in where you are coming from and then your destination (Milden, Suffolk) and see what options it provides you with – trains, buses, walking and the community bus. Primrose Wood is so rural that the last section is often the most difficult and you may have to resort to asking a friend who is also coming to Primrose Wood to pick you up, or get a taxi.
-
Local Community Bus - Connecting Communities in Babergh
If your journey starts in a village in Babergh and there’s no public transport available to you locally, this community bus, driven by a volunteer, may be able to collect up to a maximum of 11 guests and deliver you to Primrose Wood Natural Burial Ground at a very reasonable fee, comparable to typical bus rates – and collect you again later at a pre-arranged time. However, this is subject to availability and you can only book the bus one week ahead.
So, this bus demand-responsive volunteer-led service might be good if a whole group of people are coming from a specific area (or linked local areas) within Babergh District.
-
Wheelchair users in Babergh District
The above-mentioned community bus has a tail-lift to help get passengers with wheelchairs into the bus.
Additionally, for wheelchair users who would like help in getting to a funeral, someone to help them into and out of the vehicle with a wheelchair, stay with them for the duration of the funeral and then return them to their home, Suffolk County Council’s Wheels Within Wheels volunteer-led service may be able to help.
So, enquire about this if it might help someone you know get to a funeral who would otherwise find it impossible due to their impaired mobility.
Booking line open for this very friendly service Monday - Friday 9-3pm. Call 01473 826242
