BUYING A BURIAL PLOT

Burials may be in a churchyard, local authority cemetery or natural burial site such as Primrose Wood Natural Burial Ground. Less environmentally-friendly, cremated remains may be buried here in ashes interment plots, or scattered in our designated ash-scattering meadow area.

Some people like to plan ahead and get their affairs in order.  Writing a will and a set of advance decision documents - and discussing it with close family - is a good start.  Some may take it a step further and want to plan their own funeral and pay for it in advance – they feel comforted by knowing where their place of rest will be.  Buying an Exclusive Right to Burial (a burial plot) sends a clear message to family and friends that this is where you want to be.

Those who wish to pre-purchase an Exclusive Right to Burial at PWNBG can do so by completing a pre-purchase application form and paying the plot fee.  This does not confer ownership of the land.

If you feel ready, and you know details for the funeral, you can contact a funeral director or us at Primrose Wood to plan a burial. However, you cannot actually bury someone until PWNBG have received the Certificate for Burial or Cremation (the so-called ‘green form’). You or your funeral director will need to complete an Interment Form and Exclusive Right to Burial Form.

‍Funeral directors usually co-ordinate the funeral with us and bring the deceased to PWNBG. ‍Unless you have already talked to us, the funeral director will notify us and we can arrange to talk to you about your wishes and options for the burial, ceremony, celebrant and a celebration of life gathering afterwards. 

All funeral directors should be happy to give you an estimate of their costs for co-ordinating the various elements prior to burial.  If you are in receipt of any benefit, the Department for Work and Pensions may be able to help with the cost.
